In 1847, a young Bavarian immigrant called Johann Gramp missed the wine he used to drink in his home land. Instead of changing his habits, he decided to start growing grapes and attempt to make the wine himself. It was a way of adapting to a new country, but still staying true to his character. What he didn’t know was that when he planted the Barossa Valley’s first commercial vineyard along the banks of Jacob’s Creek, he was also planting the seeds of one of the most popular wine brands in the world that would be named after the waterway.  Today,  Jacob's Creek remains one of the most well known, trusted and enjoyed Australian wines around the world. It delivers fresh, elegant and great tasting wines that show true varietal character.  The philosophy of Jacob's Creek is to offer a range of wines that suit all occasions.  As a company, we concentrate on two key things: The first is continuous improvement. Every vintage we strive to improve the quality of our wines by refining our winemaking practices and continually gaining a greater understanding of our vineyards. The second is that in everything we do, at every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyards all the way through to your glass, we all work with the final destination in mind. We do it for the most important wine critic. You. Read less

Fairly gamy at first with a decidedly funky edge to the sweet, almost candied wild berry fruit. There are nuances of juniper, licorice, and canned black olives with an over-arching root beer-like sweetness. A touch flat though broad in the mouth, with a nice supple texture and a rather elegant mouthfeel for a Barossa Shiraz. There is nice fruit that emerges on the mid-palate with a note of cocoa and some of that canned olive aroma as well. This is almost surprisingly dry on the palate with a nice tobacco, nutty oak note on the finish. 88pts

This was not as spicy as I would have expected for a shiraz. Definitely let this one air out a bit before drinking. Very good for the price.

Very enjoyable shiraz that never gets old. Nicely balanced, yet complex with a short, pleasant finish.

2005 Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz is an outstanding low priced wine getting harder to get. The 2006 is ok but not as good

An intense and fragrant wine this reserve from Jacobs Creek is aged up to 20 months in French and American oak barrels. After aging only the best lots make it into the final blend. This premium, full bodied wine is an outstanding example of South Australian Shiraz, displaying an intensity of ripe plum with pepper spice, balanced by soft grape and oak tannins, leading to a lingering smooth finish. An ideal accompaniment to most red meats, game and cheeses. A wine that will develop further with cellaring.

The Reserve wines from Jacob's Creek continue to offer excellent value, and with 90,000 cases imported, this should be easy to find. No, its' not the most intense and concentrated Shiraz, but this medium-bodied wine offers silky tannins, plenty of blackberry and blueberry fruit touched with dried spices and a supple finish. Drink now.
