Agaverose Vineyard, located on the north end of the Rutherford Bench off Zinfandel Lane, is a micro vineyard of 1.75 acres. The vineyard was newly planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the fall of 1999 by Napa Valley vineyardist Jim Barbour, who has managed the vineyard ever since. The Zinfandel vineyard property, formerly known as Melrose Farm, was originally developed by Jacob Greer, a Norwegian ship captain and early Napa grape grower. Greer died in a shipwreck in the 1890s in a storm off Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. Agave Rose Vineyards named Napa winemaker Andy Erickson in 2004 to make their inaugural release of Jack Quinn Cabernet, named in honor of their two young sons, Jack and Quinn. Erickson was winemaker at Hartwell Vineyards in 2004 and was most recently named winemaker at Screaming Eagle in 2007. Read less
