J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Selected grape clusters were hand harvested at night to ensure fresh fruit character. While still cool, the fruit was hand sorted, gently destemmed and gravity fed into our open-top fermenters for whole-berry fermentation. Daily tastings determined the precise balance of fruit and tannins before the wine went to barrel. Our minimalist approach in making Pinot Noirs is designed to yield a wine that reflects, in both aroma and flavor, the location in which it was grown.

A 25-year legacy of making exceptional wines to inspire in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. www.JWine.com As a gutsy 25-year old woman, Judy Jordan set out on a quest to create her vision of the perfect sparkling wine. Her journey took her to Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley where she and her team masterfully crafted an elegant sparkling wine collection that was met with a passionately loyal following. Judy was inspired by Mother Nature's bounty of microclimates laced throughout J's 9 Russian River vineyards, and recognized the ability to also craft remarkable still wines. When people told her it was "impossible" for a sparkling wine house to make great still wine, it further fueled her competitive nature to bring the ultimate wine experience to life. With a commitment to innovation and a passion for wine, today we are proud to produce award-winning sparkling wines as well as highly lauded varietal still wines. www.jwine.com www.jvineyards.blogspot.com www.twitter.com/JWinery Facebook: www.facebook.com/JWinery Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Intensely aromatic with lovely notes of green nuts, honeycomb, wild flowers, fennel pollen, green anise seed, brie rind and jammy green plum with a hint of gooseberry. Large scaled with a super fine mousse, this is creamy and broad with complex leesy flavors of smoke, nuts, caramel and even a hint of vanilla under rich citrus, quince, green plum, apricot and raw almond flavors. The finish is tense, if a little subtle, and fairly long. Refined and complex, this deserves to be served with dinner. 94pts

Minerally and buttery on the nose with a real creamy appeal. In the mouth this has an elegant texture and fine mousse with flavors of green melon and citrus delivered in a very linear style that is layered and richly flavored. Great length on the finish which shows a hint of red fruits on the final. 91pts

Bold and opulent yet balanced with a core of crisp and minerally fruit. Aromas of lemon tart and almond brioche open to rich flavors of apple cinnamon and candied ginger. Drink now through 2016. - TF Wine Spectator.

The aroma is fresh and bright with green apple, ripe grapefruit and pineapple followed by nuances of lemon custard, creme br l e, and toasted hazelnut. The palate is furthered layered with sweet, spicy flavors of candied ginger and lemon curd. The texture is both viscous and mouthwatering, and the wine finishes with a long lingering acidity.

This four-county blend is a selection of what the winemakers consider their best lots of the vintage. Made from 86% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Noir it most certainly needs some time in the cellar as it

The 2005 J. Schram is a blend of 86% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Noir. Generally these wines are aged six years on their yeast prior to bottling. This wine which comes from four different northern California counties (most from Napa) exhibits a light straw color along with crisp notes of pear apple skin and brioche in a medium-bodied complex yet delicate style with tiny pinpoint bubbles persistent effervescence and a dry crisp finish. This beautiful sparkling wine is intense yet delicate. It

Tasting Notes:

The 2008 J Vineyards “Sonoma Coast” Pinot Noir captures the essence of cool-climate, site-specific Pinot Noir. This is a luxurious wine bursting with concentrated aromas of blueberries, truffles and rose petals. Featuring a lusciously rich body and lively acidity, nuances of tart cherry, strawberry and mint intermingle with caramel, vanilla, cardamom, clove, and cinnamon. This velvety wine pairs well with an earthy mushroom soup or a filet of salmon, brushed lightly with extra virgin olive oil, and baked on a cedar or oak wood plank.

While still cool, the fruit was hand sorted, gently destemmed and gravity fed into our open-top fermenters for whole-berry fermentation.
