J Vin Gris Russian River Valley 2010
The J Vineyards Vin Gris was made by implementing the French saignée method. After the cold soak, 10% of the pinot noir juice was gently “bled” from the Pinot Noir tanks before the fermentations began. The drained juice was then fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures without the tannic influence of the skins and seeds, which allows the juice to retain its crisp acidity. The soft, light blush color of the wine is the result of being in contact with the skins for only a few hours. This wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.

Red cherry, red currant and lightly floral green herb notes greet the nose. Smooth, supple and seamless in the mouth, this is slinky and focused with a nice array of slightly jammy red fruits but for my palate it trades in refreshing drinkability for some of that suppleness. there’s a lovely pop of minerality and detail on the backend, with just a hint of spice leading to the modest finish. 87pts
Tight, fresh, lemony and slightly muscatty with floral notes on the nose. In the mouth this is lighter that you might expect front he nose with simple yet fresh flavors of sweet apple and pears buttressed by gently supporting acids. It's a Iight and fresh wine that turns more citrusy with air and gains a subtle chalky note on the fairly long finish that ends with a classic pop of spicy apple fruit. Light, fresh and pure. 87pts

This is a really nice California pinot gris. Soft and subtle citrus that was nicely balanced with decent minerality. Not oaky or overly acidic. Excellent QPR
This stop at J Wine was part of a Russian River trip! Rosé made from all Pinot Noir. Sweet smelling, reminds me of butterscotch or caramel (somewhere along that line), which is strange! Perhaps it the Jewell Ranch Chardonnay lingering in my mouth. This was crisp and refreshing with green apple and tart cherry. It would be wonderful for summer. Really enjoyed this. Hints of pineapple and a great long finish. Very large smells of fresh orange and a hint of sour apple.

A pale yellow color with slight silver hues. Freshly aromatic with white peach lavender quince and fresh orange peel followed by white pepper and a note of tartar sauce. The palate is delightfully playful with a sounding board of acidity and just a hint of alcohol burn. The mid palate is refreshing and flavored with red apple skins grapefruit and crushed rocks. This should be consumed over the next 2 years. Jeff Loo.

The 2010 J Vineyards Vin Gris is a dry rosé sporting an intense rouge coloring similar to that of Anne Hathaway’s lip gloss. Lively aromas of strawberry and blueberries leap from the glass.
