J Vin Gris Russian River Valley 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The J Vineyards Vin Gris was made by implementing the French saignée method. After the cold soak, 10% of the pinot noir juice was gently “bled” from the Pinot Noir tanks before the fermentations began. The drained juice was then fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures without the tannic influence of the skins and seeds, which allows the juice to retain its crisp acidity. The soft, light blush color of the wine is the result of being in contact with the skins for only a few hours. This wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.

A 25-year legacy of making exceptional wines to inspire in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. www.JWine.com As a gutsy 25-year old woman, Judy Jordan set out on a quest to create her vision of the perfect sparkling wine. Her journey took her to Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley where she and her team masterfully crafted an elegant sparkling wine collection that was met with a passionately loyal following. Judy was inspired by Mother Nature's bounty of microclimates laced throughout J's 9 Russian River vineyards, and recognized the ability to also craft remarkable still wines. When people told her it was "impossible" for a sparkling wine house to make great still wine, it further fueled her competitive nature to bring the ultimate wine experience to life. With a commitment to innovation and a passion for wine, today we are proud to produce award-winning sparkling wines as well as highly lauded varietal still wines. www.jwine.com www.jvineyards.blogspot.com www.twitter.com/JWinery Facebook: www.facebook.com/JWinery Read less

Tight, fresh, lemony and slightly muscatty with floral notes on the nose. In the mouth this is lighter that you might expect front he nose with simple yet fresh flavors of sweet apple and pears buttressed by gently supporting acids. It's a Iight and fresh wine that turns more citrusy with air and gains a subtle chalky note on the fairly long finish that ends with a classic pop of spicy apple fruit. Light, fresh and pure. 87pts

Red cherry, red currant and lightly floral green herb notes greet the nose. Smooth, supple and seamless in the mouth, this is slinky and focused with a nice array of slightly jammy red fruits but for my palate it trades in refreshing drinkability for some of that suppleness. there’s a lovely pop of minerality and detail on the backend, with just a hint of spice leading to the modest finish. 87pts

This is a really nice California pinot gris. Soft and subtle citrus that was nicely balanced with decent minerality. Not oaky or overly acidic. Excellent QPR

This stop at J Wine was part of a Russian River trip! Rosé made from all Pinot Noir. Sweet smelling, reminds me of butterscotch or caramel (somewhere along that line), which is strange! Perhaps it the Jewell Ranch Chardonnay lingering in my mouth. This was crisp and refreshing with green apple and tart cherry. It would be wonderful for summer. Interesting metallic finish that was a little tart. For more on the tasting, please visit http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/07/russian-river-j-vineyards-and-winery.html

Really enjoyed this. Hints of pineapple and a great long finish. Very large smells of fresh orange and a hint of sour apple.

This Pinot Gris has an enticing bouquet of Fuji apple, ripe cantaloupe, and apricot. The crisp, clean mouthfeel is bursting with flavors of lemon and lime. A hint of kiwi and sweet orange blossom honey on the palate complements the fruit and acid.

A pale yellow color with slight silver hues. Freshly aromatic with white peach lavender quince and fresh orange peel followed by white pepper and a note of tartar sauce. The palate is delightfully playful with a sounding board of acidity and just a hint of alcohol burn. The mid palate is refreshing and flavored with red apple skins grapefruit and crushed rocks. This should be consumed over the next 2 years. Jeff Loo.

Tasting Notes:

The 2010 J Vineyards Vin Gris is a dry rosé sporting an intense rouge coloring similar to that of Anne Hathaway’s lip gloss. Lively aromas of strawberry and blueberries leap from the glass. The nose segues into mouthwatering flavors of ripe summer berries, strawberry, and luscious cherry pie. There’s a nice acidity on the palate. This wellbalanced wine starts with a crisp fruitiness, followed by a lush midpalate sensation and ends with a dry and extremely refreshing finish. The wine exhibits a balanced acidity that is the perfect bridge to fruit, Cobb, or ambrosia salads. This is also the perfect summer sipper when romance is in the air.
