J. Soil To Soul Riesling By Strub 2012

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

The apple and pear flavors are a touch off-dry in this soft style. Notes of spiced cherry give the finish an enticing juiciness. Drink now.

A 25-year legacy of making exceptional wines to inspire in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. www.JWine.com As a gutsy 25-year old woman, Judy Jordan set out on a quest to create her vision of the perfect sparkling wine. Her journey took her to Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley where she and her team masterfully crafted an elegant sparkling wine collection that was met with a passionately loyal following. Judy was inspired by Mother Nature's bounty of microclimates laced throughout J's 9 Russian River vineyards, and recognized the ability to also craft remarkable still wines. When people told her it was "impossible" for a sparkling wine house to make great still wine, it further fueled her competitive nature to bring the ultimate wine experience to life. With a commitment to innovation and a passion for wine, today we are proud to produce award-winning sparkling wines as well as highly lauded varietal still wines. www.jwine.com www.jvineyards.blogspot.com www.twitter.com/JWinery Facebook: www.facebook.com/JWinery Read less

Strub’s 2011 Riesling Soil to Soul follows the pattern of recent vintages for this cuvee from highly complimentary Bruckchen and Paterberg in offering luscious, sappy peach and orange sorbet — here mingled with sweet corn and tinged with mint, wisteria, smoky black tea, and saliva-inducing salinity — not to mention outstanding value. Prominent sweetness not only supports the fruit but will enhance what is sure to be distinctive versatility. I would plan on relishing this over the next 3–4 years.

Very rich, with concentrated flavors of red peach, glazed apricot and lemon meringue. The long finish features ripe spiced apple notes. Drink now through 2025.

Strubandrsquo;s 2010 Riesling Soil to Soul andmdash; as always with this cuvee, reflecting an especially close collaboration with his importer Terry Theise andmdash; this year relies entirely on from Bruckchen and (slightly less) Paterberg. With ten grams acidity and 60 of residual sugar it looks alarmingly extreme on paper but andldquo;worksandrdquo; in practice, striking a succulently-satisfying and by no means overtly sweet pose full of juicy ripe peach, Persian melon, orange, and sweet corn, mouthwateringly tinged with salt and high-toned herbs (always a Paterberg signature). This outstanding value should drink well for close to a decade, perhaps even longer. (Dedicated bottlings of Paterberg or Bruckchen of similar style yet lesser caliber have been known to drink well long past a decade.)
