J. Rochioli Vineyards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Member Review by VegasOenophile:

Light nose, but swirling opens it up nicely. Full bodied and a silky texture and balanced structure. Delicate flavors all in harmony with one another. Black cherry jam on the nose with earth, smoke, tea, violets and vanilla. - Tasted at winery 4/21/10

With three generations of dedication to the land, Rochioli Vineyards and Winery has earned the reputation as one of Sonoma County's finest wineries. This family legacy began in 1938, when Joe Rochioli Sr. purchased land he had long farmed. He had the foresight to know that the soil of the Russian River Valley would one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. His son Joe Jr. embraced this vision and today craft renowned, terrior-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit. The result has been a decades-long tradition of outstanding vintages: Silky-smooth, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs; rich, opulent Chardonnays; and tangy, food-friendly Sauvignon Blancs. Always in demand, always revered and always rated among the best varietals to be sought anywhere in the world. This commitment to quality is unwavering and our promise to everyone who uncorks a bottle of our wine. Read less

This is one of my favorite Pinots! Medium to full-bodied with a lovely floral aroma. Excellent!

Solid Pinot but not one that I expected more from. Very much Russian River with rose petal nose and silky red cherry flavors.

It’s a name that’s become synonymous with great California Pinot Noir, Rochioli Vineyards has been providing grapes to producers like Williams Selyem, Gray Farrell, Davis Bynum and others for over 40 years. They started producing their own estate Pinot Noir in the late 80’s and it has been a collector’s item ever since. This wine is their latest release from the outstanding 2013 vintage. This Estate is a blend of grapes from their many different vineyard sites, such as Sweetwater, Little Hill, Big Hill, West Block and various other blocks on the Estate. This full bodied wine possesses the typical Rochioli character and the Classic Russian River Valley charm. Aged in French oak for 15 months .Wine Spectator scored it 91 points saying "Firmly tannic, with a gravelly edge to the ripe cherry, raspberry, red plum and anise flavors. Needs a little time, as the structure is very tight and the finish persistent. Drink now through 2021." and Robert Parker said "The 2013 Pinot Noir Estate reveals beautiful red and black cherry fruit, a perfumed, flowery nose, a supple texture and medium body. Already drinkable, it should provide plenty of pleasure during its first 4-6 years of life."

Bright red. Vibrant redcurrant and raspberry scents, with a seductive overlay of candied rose and peppery spices. Focused and taut but sweet, with sappy red berry flavors and a lively mineral quality that adds lift and cut. Closes silky, seamless and long, with a strong echo of red fruit and no obvious tannins.

Offers ripe plum and raspberry notes, with dry, gripping tannins. Though somewhat simpler midpalate on, this may gain with time. Drink now through 2025. 1,400 cases made.

Bright ruby-red. Intense, spice- and floral-accented aromas of candied red fruits, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Taut and focused on the palate, offering lively strawberry and raspberry flavors that gain weight with aeration. Closes on a sweet note, with very soft tannins and lingering berry and rose notes.

The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate is fleshy, seductive and quite pretty. Freshly cut flowers, dark red cherries, mint and anise are nicely balanced. A vinous, inviting Pinot, the 2011 is best suited for drinking over the next few years. There is a tremendous amount of early appeal here. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2018.
