J P Chenet Pinot Noir Reserve 2012

Member Review by thevinoboy:

I try not to judge a book by its cover or rather a vino by its ~$11 asymmetrical bottle. The only reason I picked this wine up was to reaffirm my love of Pinot Noir with Seared Salmon. Steamed broccoli and Arugula salad w/ raspberry vinaigrette eagerly await, on the plate, the seared pecan-crusted fish. The shifting colors of ruby red and purple swish in the glass strangely as sniffs of cherry blossoms emanate. The medium-bodied almost-elegance carries plums, vanilla and nutmeg upon the palate to finish subtly earthy. Definitely a with-food vino. Not bad, really, but seems to be lacking that certain French Pinot Noir je-ne-sais-quoi.

The N°1 French wine brand in the world! Following his artistic and entrepreneurial spirit, in 1984 Joseph Helfrich designed a bottle with a revolutionary shape. He named it Joséphine. It stood out from the crowd with its original curves, slanted neck and generous body. It represented a genuine challenge at the time as a special bottling chain needed to be built for it. The first brand of French wine was born and its name was JP Chenet. To set itself even further apart from the far too traditional French market, JP Chenet focused its communication on the grape variety rather than the appellation. The success of our brand is intimately associated with its capacity for innovation. We were the frontrunners of French branded wines and thanks to the hard work of our teams, J.P Chenet is the best-selling French wine in the world. In the 160 countries where it has a presence, the brand conveys the image of a modern French wine adapted to the habits of the markets. Read less

Tasting Notes:

A beautiful deep ruby red, dark and limpid. A bouquet with fine aromas of small red fruits, spices and vanilla. An elegant and very complex palate.

J.P. Chenet's internationally recognized bent bottles ( not only offer good value, but they also lay claim to being the top selling French wine in the world. Here you'll find solid, typical Pinot characteristics - aromas of fresh cherries and juicy red berries, sweet spices and cedar chips with a hint of rainforest floor.
