Red fruit, vanilla, herbs and toasted spices come together on a nose that is fresh and well-balanced. Rather firm and dry in the mouth, there's an underlying minerality here that adds depth to the palate. The tannins are slightly austere, balancing out the fruit ripe with wild cherry, plum and pomegranate flavors. The back end shows some wood spice which becomes obvious on the long, slightly sticky, jammy wild cherry finish which shows a bit of peppery spice as well. A solid wine for the money. 87pts

The wine is a very classic deep purple Cabernet color, with a lighter ruby along the edges of the glass. The nose is classic Cabernet, with aromas of blueberry and cherry layered with a bit of vanilla and leather. The taste is a big bold Cabernet from California, with a burst of blueberry and plum at the outset, giving way to some dried herbs and dusty limestone midpalate. The firm tannins are supportive of a long, smooth finish that begs you to take another sip. Needed to breathe. Black fruit on the nose. Tasted of black cherries with a hint of vanilla and had surprisingly low alcohol. Wasn't as good as previous bottles I have had from J Lohr.

I discovered this wine while working at the Keg Steakhouse & Bar in Edmonton, AB. Great with steak and easy to drink. Woody and fruity, and one of my personal top 5 as it is easy to find and usually in the $20 range.

Winemaker Notes - The J. Lohr Estates Wildflower Valdiguie is a vibrant, red-purple in color with bright aromas of boysenberry, Bing cherry, raspberry and banana. The fruit complexion on the palate is equally bright, dominated by boysenberry and raspberry. The luscious fruit and lingering acidity make this wine ideal as an aperitif or paired with grilled salmon. Drink your last bottle just in time for the release of the new vintage! Serve chilled.

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely-colored with youthful and bright hues. An abundance of dark cherry, black currant and berry fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy cedar, vanilla and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years.
