Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel. Really full-bodied aroma with toasted oak, black pepper, chili powder, red and black fruit. An absolute pleasure to take in the nose. The attack is smooth and well balanced, with smoked meaty notes in the midpalate and hints of papaya and coconut on the finish. I'll probably finish the bottle.

A multiple amount of fruit on the nose. I'm sure there was a hint of apple. On the palate very low key hints of berries and slight taste of oak which was not offensive. A medium body cab with mild tannins and not much of a finish. For this price point i believe it is a descent everyday cab.

Smooth wine and buttery. No very bold but a good wine.

Promising young Cabernet. It has classic youthful tannins with black currant, black cherry, and plum aromas and similar fruit taste structure. A hint of oak and vanilla. Should age well and reach its prime in a few years. P.S. A more recent tasting (August 2012) suggests that this wine is maturing nicely. It's more balanced, and the tannin structure is a little more complex as compared to a 2011 tasting.

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely-colored with youthful and bright hues. An abundance of dark cherry, black currant and berry fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy cedar, vanilla and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years.

True to J Lohr's style, this wine has tons of oak and enough fruit to balance it nicely. Big and delicious, this wine needs to match with red meat to really shine.

Winemaker Notes - A particularly dense vintage, this wine is red-purple in color with a bright hue. Aromas of black currant, plum and black cherry are lifted by a bouquet of vanilla, toasted pastry and spice from a year of barrel aging. The palate is rife with primary fruit and a broad, rich tannin structure.

J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet is especially full and forward in the 2009 vintage. Lots of Red Raspberry and cassis fruit aromas with hints of cocoa and a pleasant vanilla oaked finish.

While you're waiting for your huge Cabs to age, sustain yourself with this drinkable wine tonight. It's soft and gentle, with pretty flavors of blackberries, black cherries and coffee. Has an elegance that belies the affordable price.

Impeccably balanced, this sophisticated Cabernet explodes with hints of blueberry, cassis, leather, and spice that are well integrated into a tightly woven finish that is impressively long.

Blackberry, plum and espresso flavors are tangy, with a hint of floral sweetness, with firm tannins and cedary oak lingering on an earthy finish. Drink now through 2008.
