Editorial Reviews for J. Lohr Gesture GSM
There’s a lot of oak on the nose here: sweet and toasty over candied, licorice drenched fruit that is very plummy. This is large-scaled, soft and broad on the palate. There’s some nice fruit here, but this is a bit hollow and lacks life in the mouth. There’s plenty of liquory fruit, dark and spicy, but the low acid leaves the feeling and detail quite flat. The finish is more of the same, sort of wild berry Lifesaver candy that lingers with Popsicle stick wood tannins on the relatively long finish. Ends with a touch of alcoholic burn. 84pts
“The 2010 J. Lohr Gesture GSM is medium in color with a bright hue. The high-toned red fruit character of Grenache is spiced by a fraction of Syrah, while Mourvèdre provides a slight savory element. Aging in French oak puncheons contributes aromas of baking spice and a palate structure to the wine. The long-lasting, plummy flavors are refreshing, whetting the appetite for healthy cuisine.” —Steve Peck, red winemaker
