Food Pairings for J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon
Love it, love it, love it. OMG. Perfection. I am drinking it now, can you tell? It is the wine I reach for when I just really want some great wine, no messing around. Deep cherry, vanilla and oak.
A thick wine, but very delicious
This is a very nice, straight forward California Cabernet. Expressive and fruity with enough complexity to keep you interested. Best one I've found in this price range and one of my favorites.
I enjoy this wine but my relatives love it, especially women, its lighter than I like but its very pleasing wine. I like to bring one to family get togethers. My Aunt eyes light up when I bring it, I think its her favorite now and she tends to buy less expensive wines so its a real treat.
Big and bold Cabernet that is accompanied by soft tannins and a young, oak background. This wine may settle out and big more character in a year or two but it was ready to drink now. Tastes of black berries and currants.
Spicy nose of charred wood. Cab franc backward style. Nice, but nothing remarkable. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 10/24/09
This wine was a prototypical California cabernet with big, round currant and berry fruit predominating. Some oak character shows as well. Medium tannins and body.

Dark, rich and dramatically structured, with ultra-refined black and red currant, cherry, violet, cedar and smoke flavors that are grounded by a firm minerality. It s a Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Franc.
True to J Lohr's style, this wine has tons of oak and enough fruit to balance it nicely. Big and delicious, this wine needs to match with red meat to really shine.
Opaque core with a purple rim. The nose showcases aromas of cedar, baking spice, dark black fruit and crème de cassis. Reminiscent of a young Bordeaux from a ripe vintage, the black and blue fruit push forward on the palate with notes of licorice an... Geoffrey Binder. Wine Tasting NotesThe wine color has a deep, bright, red-purple hue. An abundance of dark cherry and black currant fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy clove and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years. Enjoy it with your favorite barbecued meats, tomato-based pastas like pasta allamatriciana and chocolate decadence.

If you’ve never heard of Valdiguié, that’s not surprising. For years, California wineries called it “Napa Gamay” or “Gamay Beaujolais” on their labels. But DNA fingerprinting has confirmed that it isn’t Gamay Noir, the grape used in France’s Beaujolais region. Rather, it’s a grape that’s now just a minor variety in Languedoc and Provence. J. Lohr’s version shows, however, that Valdiguié can be made into an exuberantly fruity, easy-to-drink red. The grapes came from Lohr’s vineyard in the Arroyo Seco AVA (although the label says Monterey). The wine spent no time in oak, and 15 percent of the blend went through carbonic maceration, so the wine bears more than a passing resemblance to Beaujolais. It’s bright and fruity, with slightly candied cherry and blackberry flavors. A touch of residual sugar softens the finish. Like a lot of Beaujolais, this wine would benefit from being slightly chilled, and it would make a good aperitif or a companion for lighter fare. With the modest price of $8.50, it’s the perfect summer quaffing wine, especially if you know someone who refuses to drink anything that’s not red.
VINTAGE The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller Cabernet Sauvignon berries. The combination of these elements in 2006 made for excellent quality in all of our Paso Robles red varietals, but in particular, Cabernet was the most positively impacted. The outstanding color and flavor development brought back memories of the noteworthy Cabernet crop from 2001. We incurred no significant heat events after veraison in 2006, and had very mild weather conditions straight through harvest. This allowed sugar, flavor and tannin ripeness to occur simultaneously, producing fruit full of bold and generous varietal and regional expression, and highlighting the dark cherry and black currant fruit that is the hallmark of this great Cabernet winegrowing region. CABERNET SAUVIGNONThe predominant fruit for our J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon comes from estate vineyards located directly opposite our J. Lohr Paso Robles Wine Center. The Seven Oaks vineyard was originally planted on its own rootstock, utilizing some of the original plantings from indigenous Estrella clones. The soils in our Paso Robles vineyards vary from gravelly clay loam to limestone-based soils over a relatively small parcel of land, and various rootstock and clonal combinations have been used to maximize the expression of each individual site. The different soil types and planting combinations add to and complement the palate of the Seven Oaks Cabernet and the other red varietals we produce, including Merlot and Petit Verdot, to add balance and weight to the wine.TECHNICAL DATAOrigin: Seven Oaks Vineyard, Paso Robles Composition: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot and 1% MalbecTotal Acidity: 0.68 g/100 mlpH at Bottling: 3.72Alcohol: 13.8% by volumeResidual Sugar: DryVinification: Stainless steel fermented Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and barrelsMaturation: 14 to 16 months aging in combination American and Hungarian oak Bottling Date: January and February 2008WINEMAKERS COMMENTSThe 2006 J. The inspiration for J. Lohr Cuvée POM comes from the Grand Cru wines of Pomerol in the Right Bank of Bordeaux. These legendary wines are composed primarily of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with sparse additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Winemaking is given the freedom to emulate these great wines without the restrictions of varietal percentages, instead keenly focusing on the texture and complexity of the blend that nature delivers with each vintage.
