J. Lohr Cuvee Saint E California Blends Other Reds 2005
VINTAGE The 2005 harvest concluded a drought spanning several years. The grapevines seemed to awaken with enthusiasm. Not only did the vines respond with a healthy crop, the grapes were full of bold and generous varietal and regional expression, highlighting the dark cherry and black currant fruit that is the hallmark of this great Cabernet winegrowing region. The lengthy harvest occurred over a 30-day window from September 27th to October 27th. The 2005 harvest will certainly be remembered for its abundant yields, but more importantly, for its underlying depth of fruit. CABERNET SAUVIGNON The predominant fruit for our J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon comes from estate vineyards located directly opposite our J. Lohr Paso Robles Wine Center. The Seven Oaks vineyard was originally planted on its own rootstock, utilizing some of the original plantings from indigenous Estrella clones. The soils in our Paso Robles vineyards vary from gravelly clay loam to limestone-based soils over a relatively small parcel of land, and various rootstock and clonal combinations have been used to maximize the expression of each individual site. The different soil types and planting combinations add to and complement the palate of the Seven Oaks Cabernet and the other red varietals we produce, including Merlot and Petit Verdot, to add balance and weight to the wine. TECHNICAL DATA Origin: Seven Oaks Vineyard, Paso Robles Composition: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petite Sirah, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 2% Syrah, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc and 2% other Total Acidity: 0.68 g/100 ml pH at Bottling: 3.68 Alcohol: 13.7% by volume Residual Sugar: Dry Vinification: Stainless steel fermented Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and barrels Maturation: 14 to 16 months aging in combination American and Hungarian oak Bottling Date: January and February 2007 WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS The 2005 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most intensely-colored Estates Cabernets we've produced during my tenure. The wine color has a deep, bright, red-purple hue. An abundance of dark cherry and black currant fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy clove and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years. Smart deep rasberry and plum on the nose. Round, lightly jammy feel on the palate. Medium yet satisfying smokey finish.

Given to us over the holidays. Had the bottle last night with penne, vodka cream sauce with mushrooms, sausage and spinach. Very tasty.

This is a very good BBQ winee that should be chilled before opening it. Thie wine has a great floral aroma with plenty of healty tannins over a simple but bold fruit backbone great with BBQ meat.
