J Lohr Cabernet Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

The predominant fruit for our J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon comes from estate vineyards located directly opposite our J. Lohr Paso Robles Wine Center. The Seven Oaks vineyard was originally planted on its own rootstock, utilizing some of the original plantings from indigenous Estrella clones.

Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel. The Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is red-purple in color with a bright hue at release. Ripe fruit aromas of black plum, blueberry and cherry mix with a bouquet of toasted pastry, anise, and vanilla from a year of barrel aging. Mature and round on the palate, the cool 2011 vintage has a high toned fruit signature and soft finish. -Steve Peck, Red Winemaker

well, if you love cab and oak - this is your choice. It has smooth, raw simple texture with very typical Cab taste and yammy sweet flavor. Easy to start drinking, difficult to stop =) It has so much oak, that I feel more oak tannins instead of fruity aftertaste... Actually 15$ is a suitable price. I would take it somewhere in restaurant but not in shop.

bought 2010 for $16.98 at Dierbergs very nice bouquet. Grape in the beginning then the plum and perhaps some raspberry comes thru. Smooth on the tongue while going down but the after taste feels more like a coating without flavor.

This wine has always been a consistent favourite of my friends and I. Full bodied, fruit forward with nice raspberry, dark cherry and hints of chocolate! Love it!

J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely-colored with youthful and bright hues. An abundance of dark cherry, black currant and berry fruit greets the nose, enhanced by spicy cedar, vanilla and toasty notes. On the palate, the fruit follows through with full weight and a lingering intensity and balance from the tannins. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, or cellared for 5 years.
