J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay 2006
The Arroyo Vista Vineyard lies in the heart of the windswept and cool Arroyo Seco AVA of Monterey County. Loamy sand and gravelly loam soils of the Elder series are intermixed and underlain by "Greenfield potatoes" - stones that resemble potatoes in size and appearance and which absorb heat during the day and radiate their heat after sunset. This wine's complex and delicate aromas of lime zest, pear, white blossoms, apricot and vanilla are complemented by an almost sweet, oily, creamy yet well balanced texture. Pair this with Rich seafood, particularly lobster and light chicken dishes, or even a luscious accompaniment to starters such as goat cheese tarts or vegetable quiches.
A very oaky nose full of vanilla bean and woody scents, really smells of young vibrant oak. Too very acidic in the mouth which was a bit of a disappointment. Softer more buttery oak in the mouth.
A very good wine in it's price range to serve to company. Mild oak and mild buttery tastes, with slight vanilla finish. Well balanced and full body mouth feel. A very good Chardonnay to keep for dinner guest.
