Editorial Reviews for J. Hofstätter Pinot Nero Alto Adige Südtirol Riserva Mazon
Lightly smoky on the nose and gently oaky with a backdrop of gently leafy tones to the sweet red currant fruit. On the palate this exhibits a firm bed of fine grained tannins. The mouthfeel is a bit lean and quite focused with mineral and soil driven flavors that lead to a slightly meaty, cherry skin finish. This is a bit small and quite jewel like in the mouth, deserving of some simple food. 91pts

J Hofstatter Pinot Nero Meczan 2008 750ml The color is a translucent crimson/ruby. Elegant but concentrated palate, lightish body. Corrupt cherries, a touch of wood. This wine is a total winner and would basically go with anything, but would be best with a rustic, northern italian dish
Any way you describe this – Pinot Nero or Blauburgunder – one thing is certain: this is perfect for those who enjoy traditional red Burgundy. It’s delightfully earthy, with beautiful red-berried fruit, almond-peel tannins and playful acidity. Food is a must; something saucy, meaty or gamey would be ideal. Meczan is the vineyard site where you'll find a mixture of soils from clay to limestone.
Leuchtendes Rubin.
