Italy Oreno. Sette Ponti Bottles Red 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2008 Oreno is stunningly beautiful. An open, expressive bouquet laced with mint, red berries, roses and spices emerges with superb clarity and balance. The tension between the minerality of the vintage and the rich expression of fruit that is one of the house’s hallmarks play off each other beautifully here. The finish is utterly exquisite in its beguiling beauty...it is quite possibly the most elegant, impeccably refined wine I have ever tasted here. Simply put, it is fabulous juice! In 2008 the percentage of Sangiovese is way down and Oreno is predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, a decision that has paid off handsomely. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024...These superb releases from Sette Ponti include a fabulous version of the Oreno, perhaps the finest vintage ever made...96." WA 10/31/10

The nose was showy yet elegant with blackberry jam spices and buttered cinnamon toast. On the palate, it was beautifully balanced and dense with black fruits and herbs, which led to a long, structured finish.

deep garnet, full-bodied wine. bold, tannic, and intense. in a pretty perfect stage of development - good balance of wood, dark berry and plum skin, rich farmland, leather. nice tartness keeps the finish lingering. happy Thursday to me.

Pretty great stuff. Inky black appearance and texture, with licorice, nuts, complex fruit on the nose. The mouth is strong with powerful tannins; it really lingers.

a little rustic on the nose, dried tea-leaves, currants with tight new wood textures. the palate offers immediate earth-like notes too, the currants, pronounced tannins, would be excellent with cheeses

There is a purity of fruit in this young Tuscan red with flowers citrus fruit and currants. Full body with firm and silky tannins that are ultra-fine and wonderfully polished. The structure builds to a racy finish. This is a Bordeaux blend that is all in harmony. Give it time as the tannins and fruit melt together. Try in 2016. James Suckling.

Though rich this red is also vibrant balanced and full of generous black cherry and blackberry flavors. Hints of spice and smoke add accents to the long satisfying finish. Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2025.
