Irony 'Small Lot Reserve' Pinot Noir 2012

Member Review by Norm Gary:

This review is of Irony Pinot Noir, Monterey County, 2005. I was looking for a wine under $15 to take to a wine and food pairing dinner. I wanted something to match with a pork roast in a cranberry sauce. I tried several PNs and ultimately decided on the Irony. It had lots of berry fruit and good acidity. It matched the dish very well and several participants asked where they could buy it. It is sometimes discounted to @ $12.

Most of us didn't imagine where we would be right now. Sure, we dreamed of being firemen, astronauts, rock stars and superheroes, but life often takes you where you didn't expect it to. My brother and I worked every harvest from the time we could ride our bikes. After college, our careers took us beyond the land our grandfather planted in 1924. Ironically, today we are more fulfilled, working side-by-side at the family vineyard & winery. We didn't plan it or expect it, but we are enjoying this strange twist in our lives. That's Irony - a bottle full of life's strange twists and a celebration of our family's life-long commitment to producing the finest quality wines. -- Chris & Jay Read less

Very disappointing. Super tart, going toward a spoiled acidity. When I sipped this, I involuntarily made a face I usually reserve for wines that have gone bad. Just plain odd.

Irony Russian River Pinot Noir 2009 is a medium-bodied wine with flavors of raspberry and blackberry.

Very drinkable wine. Very smooth and easy. A good wine that would go with many foods.

It's hard to imagine winemakers who are more prolific and successful at turning out absolutely stunning value wines than the Indelicatos. As kids, brothers Jay and Chris Indelicato spent hot, dusty days helping their grandfather in the vineyards and growing up around grapes and winemaking 24/7. Now they are experienced vintners with access to a wide swath of quality fruit. For Irony Small Lot Reserve, they’re pulling together individual lots of Pinot Noir from theb sub-appellations in Monterey including Santa Lucia, San Bernbe and Arroyo Seco, providing a spectrum of characteristics and flavors. Each lot is vinified separately and aged three months in French and American oak barrels. All lots are tasted blind and the most exceptional are chosen for the final blend. This 2012 received a Platinum Medal and a score of 95 points in the Critics Choice Wine Awards. They said "All red-berry poise and refined elegance" We say it's absolutely delicious and you can't beat it for the price!
