Irony Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005

Member Review by mrrar:

In my quest to find good ten dollar Cabernets, I came across this. Attracted by the big yellow label (I like Yellow on black-ish!), I decided to try it on a whim. Unlike my previous experience in this price range, the tannin was not overwhelming to the point of dominating the flavors. Instead there was a good baseline of flavors identifiable throughout. Regretfully I don't have the wine in front of me so can merely go off memory. As I recall there was a distinct red/black fruit flavor, but certainly nothing like prune. There was an identifiable tannin that was sort of pleasant, and the finish was almost smooth. I used the bottle over three days, and I found every day better than the last, until on the last day, it was actually a smooth drink with many of the flavors fully formed. I preserved it in the fridge on the second day, but left it out (and corked) on the first. I strongly recommend letting this one decant after opening, and even giving it a day or two to really develop as a nice wine. My guess is that in a few years, this would be a really pleasant drink.

Most of us didn't imagine where we would be right now. Sure, we dreamed of being firemen, astronauts, rock stars and superheroes, but life often takes you where you didn't expect it to. My brother and I worked every harvest from the time we could ride our bikes. After college, our careers took us beyond the land our grandfather planted in 1924. Ironically, today we are more fulfilled, working side-by-side at the family vineyard & winery. We didn't plan it or expect it, but we are enjoying this strange twist in our lives. That's Irony - a bottle full of life's strange twists and a celebration of our family's life-long commitment to producing the finest quality wines. -- Chris & Jay Read less

5 stars. Not because it is the best wine I have ever had but it is one of the best Cabs for the 10$. Very mild tannins, not as dry as I like but very pleasant flavors. Excellent price for an excellent wine.
