Iron Horse Vineyards White Blend Green Valley Russian Cuvée 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

The same base wine as Classic Vintage Brut, but with a richer dosage, which makes it more opulent, slightly sweeter and heightens the fruit. Originally designed for the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings ending the Cold War. According to USA Today, "an intertwining of the arts of diplomacy and gastronomy".

Continue down the hill, across a small bridge, past the vegetable gardens, up a winding oak lined drive, between a row of alternating palm and olive trees and finally to the charming Iron Horse Winery, where you will enjoy a stunning view all the way across Sonoma County to Mt. St. Helena. The winery is best known for its Sparkling Wines. The Obama Adminstration is the fifth consecutive presidental administration to serve Iron Horse at the White House, a tradition that began in 1985 with the historic U.S.-Russian Summit Meetings ending the Cold War. The Chardonnay is cool climate perfection. Pinot Noir is the winery’s rising star wine. Read less

This immediately impresses with huge lemon curd and biscuit notes on the nsoe that are vivid and complex and layered over notes of dried apricot. The mousse is slightly coarse though this is really very well balanced with deep, earthy flavors. The acids keep this so well balanced and accentuate the elegance and length this offers. 91pts

This Sparkling commemorates the toasting wine at the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings ending the Cold War, which still holds pride of place at the White House.

Originally created for the Reagan/Gorbachev summit meetings, the 2004 Russian Cuvee is a blend of 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay aged 3 years on its yeast. Like all of these sparklers, it reveals lots of persistent effervescence, tiny, well-formed... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Marked by its soft mousse-like refinement this sparkling wine is sheer silk and satin in the mouth. On the palate the raspberry lime and vanilla flavors are subtle while leesy doughiness and oakiness bring a touch of smoke. This is a beautiful wine for a celebratory toast or to enjoy with lobster crab or scallops. It would also perfect a weekend brunch alongside plain old scrambled eggs and buttered toast.
