Iron Horse Vineyards Chardonnay Green Valley Estate Bottled 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

By nose: Strawberry and raspberry. By mouth: rich and full bodied with intense raspberry fruit. Our Rosé of Pinot Noir has ample body and structure to enable it to pair wonderfully with a range of dishes. On the lighter side - watermelon, feta & basil salad or bay scallop cevice with fresh avocado. Or go for bolder flavors such as grilled oregano chicken skewers with lemon aioli or a rack of sweet and mildly spicy barbequed ribs.

Drive past the berry farms on Ross Station Road, past the point where you can’t imagine there’s anything at the end of the road, crest the knoll and be awestruck as the view opens up to 350 acres covered with grape vines. Continue down the hill, across a small bridge, past the vegetable gardens, up a winding oak lined drive, between a row of alternating palm and olive trees and finally to the charming Iron Horse Winery, where you will enjoy a stunning view all the way across Sonoma County to Mt. St. Helena. The winery is best known for its Sparkling Wines. The Obama Adminstration is the fifth consecutive presidental administration to serve Iron Horse at the White House, a tradition that began in 1985 with the historic U.S.-Russian Summit Meetings ending the Cold War. The Chardonnay is cool climate perfection. Pinot Noir is the winery’s rising star wine. Read less

2009. Nice Russian River Chardonnay, not overly oaked, creamy with good structure.

2009. Nice Russian River Chardonnay, not overly oaked, creamy with good structure. (same review from 6/10/12, just added proper vintage)

Aromas and flavors of light vanilla and citrus. Wonderful creamy mouthfeel, despite no malolactic fermentation. The acidity balances the creaminess and keeps it lively.

Aromas of vanilla and apples with flavors of apple pie and berry cobbler. General aromas and flavors of toast and baked fruit. Nice and creamy (without malolactic fermentation). Very enjoyable, despite the berry cobbler flavors.

Iron Horse Chardonnays tend to start out as tight rose buds and slowly open up to their full beauty. 2006 is just now beginning to show all that it has to offer.

A superb wine to taste if you want to understand why Iron Horse Chardonnays are so good. With no oak, it stars pure pineapple, orange, green apple, lime and tropical fruit flavors, brightened with crisp acidity.

The 2011 Estate Chardonnay is signature Green Valley. By nose, vanilla and spice, ripe red apple and a touch of lees on the finish. This Chardonnay is savory, complex and satisfying, with a touch of minerality, tarragon and vanilla.

With appealing pineapple, orange, pear and green apple flavors enhanced with the vanilla and buttered toast of oak, this is a delicious Chardonnay. Its bright acidity makes it clean and mouthwatering.

WE 92pts - Winemaker Notes - Our concentration on Estate Chardonnay is bearing delicious fruit. We are successfully adding new layers and complexity to our Estate bottling without resorting to more oak and ML. For us, malo-lactic fermentation is simply an acid balancing tool not a stylistic component, and we feel very strongly about keeping the oak beautifully integrated in the wine.

This wine beautifully expresses the bright, focused, clean, sweet-tart flavors of cool, foggy Green Valley. It is beautifully balanced, imparting a delightful leesy , toasty, perfectly integrated bar

This wine beautifully expresses the bright, focused, clean, sweet-tart flavors of cool, foggy Green Valley It is beautifully balanced, imparting a delightful "leesy", toasty, perfectly integrated barrel character that doesn't overwhelm the fruit The texture is soft, smooth, silky and sensuous The finish is long and lingering Enjoy with corn soup, rainbow trout, sole, halibut with mushrooms and asparagus, salmon, steamed lobster, lemon roast chicken served with jasmine rice, veal chop, anything with a cream sauce, goat cheese, walnuts - in other words, as often as possible
