Iron Horse Vineyards’ 2005 Estate Chardonnay was produced from the winery’s estate vineyards in Sonoma County’s Green Valley appellation. Iron Horse Chardonnays have a bright, distinctive quality that the winery continues to deliver with each celebrated vintage and the 2005 Estate Chardonnay follows a procession of six consecutive vintages garnering 90+ point ratings in Wine Enthusiast. Named one of Wine & Spirits’ Top 100 Wineries of the Year a astounding nine times lands Iron Horse in the magazine’s Hall of Fame and makes it one of the major iconic wineries of Sonoma County. The 2005 Estate Chardonnay was served at the Governor’s Ball of the Golden Globe Awards and is the recipient of 93 Points from Wine & Spirits and 90 Points from Wine Enthusiast. Iron Horse successfully adds layers of complexity to their Estate Chardonnay by keeping the oak beautifully integrated in the wine while refraining from malolactic fermentation. On the nose, aromas of grilled bananas and pears with light citrus and almond notes lead into a luscious mouthful of green apples, pears and marmalade on the finish. A delicious wine to pair with food, we recommend corn soup, halibut, goat cheese and lemon roasted chicken. 100% Chardonnay. Enjoy now until 2010

"On the nose: bakers yeast

This wine beautifully expresses the bright, focused, clean, sweet-tart flavors of cool, foggy Green Valley. It is beautifully balanced, imparting a delightful "leesy", toasty, perfectly integrated barrel character that doesn't overwhelm the fruit. The texture is soft, smooth, silky and sensuous. The finish is long and lingering. Enjoy with corn soup, rainbow trout, sole, halibut with mushrooms and asparagus, salmon, steamed lobster, lemon roast chicken served with jasmine rice, veal chop, anything with a cream sauce, goat cheese, walnuts - in other words, as often as possible.

Winemaker's Notes:

In blending this wine we used multiple lots of Chardonnay, each one bringing something distinctive to the blend. Hand harvested in the chill of early morning, our Chardonnay is gently pressed as whole clusters. The juice slowly ferments in stainless steel tanks at 62° to 65° f, retaining the bright aromas and flavors in the wine. The dosage for the 2005 Blanc de Blancs is a mere 2ml of Blanc de Blancs LEX and 2ml of Special LEX (so actually, 99.93% Chardonnay).

Tasting Notes:

On the nose: lime, hazelnut, toasted wheat and a touch of minerality. In the mouth: Tahitian lime, green apple with some minerality at the finish. A delicious match with sushi and sashimi, teriyaki chicken, and even shabu-shabu, lemony roast chicken, anything made with Thai spices; oysters, crab and shrimp. Also, consider dishes prepared with cream or white sauces.
