Iron Horse Blanc de Blanc 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

The most elegant and sophisticated of the Iron Horse cuvées, made from 100% Chardonnay, this vintage is aged an average of six years on the yeast. It is ethereal - like drinking a cloud. It seems to effervesce away in your mouth and tastes like, among other flavors, a perfectly browned, lightly buttered slice of sourdough toast.

Drive past the berry farms on Ross Station Road, past the point where you can’t imagine there’s anything at the end of the road, crest the knoll and be awestruck as the view opens up to 350 acres covered with grape vines. Continue down the hill, across a small bridge, past the vegetable gardens, up a winding oak lined drive, between a row of alternating palm and olive trees and finally to the charming Iron Horse Winery, where you will enjoy a stunning view all the way across Sonoma County to Mt. St. Helena. The winery is best known for its Sparkling Wines. The Obama Adminstration is the fifth consecutive presidental administration to serve Iron Horse at the White House, a tradition that began in 1985 with the historic U.S.-Russian Summit Meetings ending the Cold War. The Chardonnay is cool climate perfection. Pinot Noir is the winery’s rising star wine. Read less

Solid sparkling wine. The wine has a toasty flavor with green apple. Very crisp with sharp acidity.

Wine Spectator ReviewFresh and vibrant, with the Chardonnay fruit shining through. It exhibits a delicate balance of ripe pear, apple and a hint of creamy vanilla and nutmeg, making the finish elegant and complex. Drink now.
