The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc is blended with 5% Semillon and fermented in stainless steel. It has a very fine bouquet with Granny Smith apples and fresh pear. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a lively citric thread and a mineral-rich finish that is understated and long in the mouth. This is a classy Sauvignon. Drink now–2016.
Bright pale yellow. Pure and complex on the nose but more restrained than the 2012, offering hints of lemon, grapefruit, tropical fruits and dusty herbs. Offers enticing sweetness if not quite the grip of the 2012. Nicely open-knit sauvignon with an attractive lemon candy flavor, very good intensity and firm finishing minerality. Perfect now or over the next year or two.
Pale silver. Musky aromas of lemon peel, crushed stone, quinine and wintermint. Juicy, bracing and intense; has a tactile texture but remains light and brisk. Finishes with a dusty whiplash of grapefruit rind. Very concentrated, sharply delineated sauvignon mdash; one of the best examples I tasted this year from South Africa.
A stellar example of what cool-climate South African vineyards can produce, this crisp, minerally Sauvignon Blanc is steely and clean in the true Sauvignon style. Tropical fruit flavors are subtle but delicious, and the finish is lingering and impressive. At this price, you canrsquo;t get much better, whether yoursquo;re looking for a solo sip or a food-friendly cohort.
