Innocent Bystander Rosé 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Innocent Bystander was founded by Phil Sexton in 2004. Brought up in Western Australia, Phil looked around Australia for an area that had a similar promise of quality as Margaret River and settled on the Yarra. The Innocent Bystander range is a mix of the tried and tested (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir - the varieties the Yarra Valley does best) and the new and quirky (Pinot Gris and Pink Moscato) that highlights the cool climate of Victoria. Together with head winemaker Steve Flamsteed, Phil works with like-minded growers to select fruit from the best sites for each variety. Fruit from many vineyards in Victoria (not just from the Yarra Valley) is blended together each year to create a consistent style from one vintage to the next. The Yarra Valley is famous for Pinot Noir. Gorgeous, vibrant and fruity Pinot Noir; hand picked, while bunch pressed to stainless steel, cold fermented to dryness and bottled early to preserve freshness. More fruit than artefact.

Beyond the pristine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir he was able to produce in the Valley, Phil discovered a number of vineyards in far flung corners of Victoria that inspired him to explore regional diversity in this small state. Thus the Innocent Bystander label was created, and his talented winemaking team tasked with delivering a range of wines with a personality all their own: distinctly regional, varietally expressive and definitely not your run of the mill blends.
