Inman Family Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2011 vintage is developing lovely aromas of tart lemon, wet rocks and toasted hazelnuts. It has a rich texture with a crisp finish with plenty of acidity. This is without doubt the best Chardonnay we have made to date. Alcohol is 12.6%. "Bright with a nervous energy" was the comment from a recent taster. This wine will be ready to collect at the winery or ship in October of 2012. The 2011 exhibits delicate secondary notes minerals and sea shells - all with low alcohol and bright aciditiy. Indeed, this is a unique expression of Russian River Valley Chardonnay with some new French oak, full malolactic yet remains bright and juicy." -Winery

A lot of what we do at Simi is based on tradition, enhanced with cutting-edge innovation. Our philosophy has always been to maintain the quality and style that we're recognized for, while at the same time improve our methods for growing grapes and crafting wines to reflect the experience and knowledge we are accumulating and have been throughout the winery's 125-year history. Long ago we also realized the importance of Alexander Valley and knew that it would be a leading appellation for growing Bordeaux varietals. Today we showcase the region with our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as our vineyard-designated Landslide Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1989 we purchased our Russian River Valley Goldfields Vineyard and planted it to hand-selected original cuttings from some of the best and oldest vineyards in California. This innovative technique gives us the amazing diversity of flavors that has made Simi's Russian River Reserve Chardonnay famous. Simi's unique vineyards are the genesis of our distinct wines. Our warm Alexander Valley Estate Vineyards are planted primarily to red Bordeaux varietals and are the source of Simi's Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards encompass nearly 600 acres and possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region, resulting from eons of geologic activity including a catastrophic landslide which changed the course of the Russian River. Complementing the Alexander Valley Vineyards, Simi's 120-acre Goldfields Vineyard in the Russian River Valley is the backbone of the Simi Chardonnay. Planted with a wide array of clones and field selections, Goldfields Vineyard is one of the most diverse vineyards in the Russian River Valley and all of California. With every taste of Simi wines you'll discover our devotion to tradition that is enhanced by our pursuit of the best vineyards, the best grape-growing methods, and the best winemaking techniques. The hue of this wine is brilliantly clear straw with glimmers of golden light-a color that dramatically sets the stage for what is to come. The nose is similarly demonstrative, with tropical notes of guava, pineapple, bright nectarine, peach, green apple, and citrus delicately spiced with toasty oak. Lifted aromatics of orange blossoms and a hint of smoke add a savory character. It all comes together on the palate with well-defined, supremely balanced, and forward flavors of nectarine, peach, and lemon that are lifted by a lightly toasted and warm oak character that reveals itself as sweet vanilla, hazelnut, nutmeg, and smoky bacon. This wine is perfectly balanced with a delicate, zesty tangerine finish. Enjoy this 2011 Chardonnay by serving it with housemade Tagliatelle with spot prawns and lemon thyme butter sauce, seared scallops with goat cheese, and summer truffle ravioli or baked chicken thigh with saffron garlic sauce. - WineryAging: 85% aged for eight months in a comb...

We made our first wine from Sonoma County grapes in 1876 and have been continuously making wine in the same stone cellar in Healdsburg, California since 1890.

Brilliantly clear, light yellow straw. Vibrant notes of pear, green apple and orange zest, accented by soft hints of cream and toast. Lively on the palate with peach, pear, lemon and pineapple flavors, highlighted with warm spice notes and caramel cream.
