Winemaker's Notes:

2005 was a cool year but with clear, sunny weather throughout the critical autumn season. The grapes enjoyed extended "hang time" which produces beautiful wines of intense fruitiness. The aromas exude a multitude of fresh tropical and citrus fruits with discreet notes of toasty oak. A very "French" style of Chardonnay, our 2005 exhibits a focused beam of intense, ripe fruits (peach, lime, nectarine…) with notes of honey and brioche, and a round, rich texture. This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, but will age beautifully under proper cellar conditions, for the next few years. All Bernardus Chardonnays are fermented in small lots using several different yeast strains, including a portion of native yeasts. This gives us a variety of style from which to make the final blends. We also hand stir each barrel (battonage) every three weeks to build mouthfeel and increase complexity. Appellation: Carmel Valley Cooperage: 100% French oak, 35% of which is new Coopers: Francois Freres, Cadus, Sirugue and Dargaud & Jaegle Case Production: 448
