Indaba Chardonnay Western Cape 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This offers up a nice blend of cedary spice, pineapple and orchard fruits with a hint of cheesiness. This has some weight on the palate but lacks cohesion, feeling soft, broad and very open. The fruit is a touch lean with some steely apple fruit that is clean and consistent through the modest finish which shows a hint of wood spice. 83pts

The brand was created as a celebration of the democratization process in South Africa, and from its inception, the wines have conveyed the spirit of South Africa to American consumers. A portion of the proceeds from the Indaba wines supports a scholarship for formerly disenfranchised South Africans who are interested in wine-related careers. Smells quite fruity with a nice green apple tone over some vanilla cream. On entry this shows a bit more of the toasty, creamy oak than just the vanilla on the nose but it’s fairly well balanced and round with enough acid to keep it bright. There is a little toasty nuttiness on the backend and a green apple, and lime, tone on the modest finish. A simple, fruity, and friendly styled Chardonnay 83pts

To me, not as clean as other Chardonnays we enjoy. Sherri favorite

Fresh, crisp, no oak, peary, not bad for $8

Bright tropical fruit aromas lead to a crisp, fresh palate with mouth-filling flavors of pear, apple, honey and pineapple. A gentle kiss of oak adds a creamy butterscotch nuance and wonderful depth. A superb value, this versatile wine is a fantastic match for a wide range of dishes, from mac and cheese to spicy ethnic food.

Light and fresh, with good apple and peach notes and a clean, unadorned finish. Drink now.

A plump, forward style, with lightly buttered apple, piecrust and melon notes, followed by a round, easy finish. Drink now.

Fresh and inviting notes of pineapple and tropical fruit are balanced by orange oil citrus and medium acidity in the mouth. The palate is round with a nice weight and a medium-length finish.

Sweet orange and ripe melon notes fill the nose and plump mouth, while additional accents of apple skin and soft toast carry through to the clean finish. Drink now.

Bright medium yellow. Aromas of nectarine, apple and pineapple complicated by a touch of musky brown spices. Sweet, supple stone fruit flavors are nicely lifted by citrus zest and a minerally limestone element. Cleanly made, gently oaked and persistent but a touch on the sweet side, with 6 g/l r.s.
