Imagery Estate Winery Primitivo Sonoma Valley 2009

Member Review by EMark:

Musky nose with a kind of pine tar thing in there. On the palate, a lot of sweet fruit--blackberry, fig--but not the jammy thing that you get with a lot of fuity Zinfandels. Tannin gives this wine a structural firmness--also, a kind of "powdery" feel. US$25.35 at the winery in Glen Ellen..

If you're after middle-of-the-road, rather forgettable wine, look elsewhere. We're doing some pretty unconventional stuff at Imagery Estate Winery and we're not apologizing for it. We work with a daring palette of unusual varietals, surprising blends, and innovative farming techniques. Then we marry the wine with one-of-a-kind, world class art. Who says Petit Verdot is just for blending or that Pinot Meunier only belongs in sparkling? We'll mix Rhone and Bordeaux varietals to create some unexpected magic. Yes we're a little challenging to the status quo, and some of our neighbors can't figure out what we're trying to do, but there's never a dull moment around here. We follow our taste buds before we follow the rules and we're pretty sure that if you spend any time with us, you will broaden your palate too. Read less
