Imagery Estate Winery Lagrein Paso Robles 2009

Member Review by EMark:

Like the 2010, dark black plum color. Fairly nondescript nose—some red fruit, some “oily” scent. Easy fruity entry. Fruit flavors of red plum, strawberry. Very subdued tannin. Light acid as from peach, without any sugar. Very short finish. Not a complex wine. Easy to drink, but not particularly memorable.

If you're after middle-of-the-road, rather forgettable wine, look elsewhere. We're doing some pretty unconventional stuff at Imagery Estate Winery and we're not apologizing for it. If you're after middle-of-the-road, rather forgettable wine, look elsewhere. We're doing some pretty unconventional stuff at Imagery Estate Winery and we're not apologizing for it. We work with a daring palette of unusual varietals, surprising blends, and innovative farming techniques. Then we marry the wine with one-of-a-kind, world class art. Who says Petit Verdot is just for blending or that Pinot Meunier only belongs in sparkling? We'll mix Rhone and Bordeaux varietals to create some unexpected magic. Yes we're a little challenging to the status quo, and some of our neighbors can't figure out what we're trying to do, but there's never a dull moment around here. We follow our taste buds before we follow the rules and we're pretty sure that if you spend any time with us, you will broaden your palate too. Read less

Bluish purple in the glass. Some herbalness mixed with red fruit on the nose. Easy to drink medium-weight red with a bit of the afore-mentioned red (plum) fruit. Fairly tight on the back of the tongue/palate where tannin and acid are detected. Quite a short aftertaste.

Very attractive dark purple color. Quite "peppery" volatile on the nose. Lots of sweet caramel on the tip of the tongue. Fortunately, this quickly gives way. Some raspberry/fig flavors as it moves along through the palate. Some tannic notes, but not real big. A little bitterness in the back of the throat, but that dimishes on a quite short finish. US$33.75 at the winery in Glen Ellen
