Illuminati Riparosso Mont. d'Abruzzo 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

ORIGIN: The vineyards are in the commune one of Controguerra to 260 metres a.s.l. SUBSOIL COMPOSITION: Medium-textured soil, tending to clayey. GRAPE VARIETALS: Montepulciano 100%. TRAINING TECHNIQUES: The vineyards are trained in the "tendone" system (3 m x 3 m) -(high trellis supported by crossed wires) with a consequent density of 1,100 per hectare, on a hilly position. TIME OF HARVESTING AND VINIFICATION: Grapes are usually harvested in early October, and, after an accurate selection, are stemmed, crushed and processed following the traditional "red" wine-making method with a long maceration of the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28° C. Once the malolactic fermentation is over, the wine is aged in 25 hectolitres barrels of Slavonian oak for about 7-8 months, then bottled and cellared for another 3-4 months before release. STYLE: Colour: red ruby with violet, highlights when young. Nose: red fruits, pleasant and persistent. Flavour: it well fills the mouth, on the palate is deep, full, round, harmonious, it lingers with a hint of liquorice at the end. SERVING: It is a great accompaniment to roasted or braised red meats, game, poultry, semi-matured cheese; ideal with lamb and kid.
