Lacks the complexity and intensity of the best Rosso di Montalcino. Enjoyable but not a particularly good value. Read more

The first whiff shows deep, rich, red and black cherry notes with classic Montalcino character, showing earthy spice (fennel?) and a pleasant tartness in the fragrances much like orange rind. Also on the nose is a firmness and mineral character that add seriousness and stature. The palate is mouthwatering with its sweet acidity, full black cherry flavor and medium weight. There is a hint of sweetness, just enough to balance out the rusticity and minerality. Later, grilled meat and herb notes develop on the solid finish. The Il Poggione Rosso can be relied upon year after year for an affordable alternative to Brunello, although their Brunello is top notch and should be enjoyed as well. Serious wine at a great price.

Il Poggione owns approximately 250 acres of vineyards in the Brunello di Montalcino zone, with 118 acres producing the Brunello Riserva and Brunello wines. The remaining 132 acres are planted to Sangiovese for Rosso, Cabernet Sauvignon.

A younger and more accessible version of Brunello, Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino is made with carefully selected Sangiovese grapes handpicked from the youngest of estate vines that are at least 15 years old. A baby Brunello . Velvety and rich, with great structure and smooth, rounded tannins.

Weingut: Il PoggioneLand: ItalienRegion: ToskanaRebsorte: SangioveseInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 13,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,1 g/lRestsüße: 2,0 g/lFassreife: in Barriques gereift (12 Monate) Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18°C Rotwein > Italien > Toskana

Winemaker's Notes:
