External Reviews for Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino
Established in 1890, Tenuta Il Poggione has become one of the most highly regarded and sought-after Brunello di Montalcino producers. This Tuscan estate, or tenuta, is owned by the Franceschi family, who continue to build on their already stellar reputation. Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino is made with carefully selected Sangiovese grapes handpicked from estate vines that are at least 15 years old. Ruby red in color, this wine shows an intense bouquet of wild berry fruit. The palate is velvety and rich, with great structure and smooth, rounded tannins. Aged in French Allier Oak barriques for 12 months, this wine tastes just like Brunello at half the price. A Great wine and an incredible value.Tasting Notes
Rich, cherry aromas on the nose
Fruit forward body
A great match with butterflied lamb
Wine Tasting NotesAn intense, ruby red wine with ample, well-pronounced perfumes. It has great body and structure. Enjoyable young, it will continue to improve in the bottle.
Il Poggione's 2005 Rosso di Montalcino is a lovely, feminine wine redolent of crushed flowers, raspberries and spices. It shows notable clarity and freshness in a mid-weight, classic style. Normally I prefer Rossos on the younger side but this wine h... Robert Parker. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2005 Il Poggione (Roberto Franceschi) Rosso di Montalcino 750ml
