Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Paganelli 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"Vigna Paganelli shows amazing results with a bright fruit quality that translates into black cherry and blackberry. At the back are sophisticated tones of leather, tobacco and light touches of spice that give the wine depth and elegance. The most interesting aspect, however, is the mouthfeel that shows firm but beautifully ripe tannins that will help the wine age 10 years or more...95" WE Cellar Selection 5/13

Blackberries, violets and charred wood. Solid core of big lean fruit with lanolin and a bit of caramel. On the palate, silky texture with blackberry and black cherry skins and a nice bite of acid. Fine tannins. There is a subtle richness, but no suggestion of over-ripeness. Big and elegant at the same time. Loads of life remaining.

($90) burnt orange in color. big earthy bouquet, mushrooms on the palate with tart fruit finish. Never well regarded, but past its drinking window.

The wines of Il Poggione show consistent exceptional quality year in and year out. In the outstanding 2010 vintage their Brunellos are once again a benchmark for the rest of the region. The Brunello DOCG was selected by thw Wine Spectator as the #4 Wine of 2015. This very limited single vineyard Riserva got a score of 98+ from the Wine Advocate who said "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a phenomenal achievement and a wine that captures not only the spirit of this classic vintage, but the true essence of an age-worthy wine like Brunello. This single vineyard Riserva is sharp, pristine and immaculate. It starts slow and shy, but then blossoms to beautiful intensity and aromatic brilliance. It delivers a very authentic and genuine read of Sangiovese with wild berry aromas followed by pressed violets, wet earth, tobacco and lightly toasted spice. The bouquet is seamless and very long in persistence. The same holds true for the mouthfeel. The wine delivers a fine and silky texture with a good dose of power and personality at the rear."

This very limited single vineyard Riserva scored 96+ point in the Wine Advocate who said "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a huge wine bursting with fruit. Powerful tannins provide the backdrop as the 2007 shows off its dazzling power and density. Rarely have sensuality and structure been so evident in a young Brunello. The 2007 is going to require considerable patience but it is a stunning wine. The long, explosive finish is utterly captivating. Anticipated maturity: 2022-2047."

Weingut: Il PoggioneLand: ItalienRegion: ToskanaRebsorte: SangioveseInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 6,1 g/lRestsüße: 1,5 g/lLagerfähigkeit: 10 - 15 Jahre ab JahrgangEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16-18°C Fassreife: 4 Jahre in Barriques gereift Rotwein > Italien > Toskana
