Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Among the collectable wines of Italy, none surpass the reputation of Brunello di Montalcino. And few producers are as admired as Tenuta Il Poggione. Through the use of a rigorous selection process, winemaker Fabrizio Bindocci crafts the highest quality Brunello, made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Only the best fruit is hand-selected from the estate's prime vineyards and vines that are at least 20 years old. The juice from the fruit is vinified in separate lots where only the best can become Brunello. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for two years before being decanted and aged one year in bottle.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is huge, powerful and totally implosive. The seductive allure of the 2007 is nowhere to be found. Instead, the 2006 is built on a serious spine of formidable tannin and dark red/black fruit. Hints of
