Hunawihr Pinot Gris Reserve 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

This small co-operative covers just 185 hectares in the Haut-Rhin, 9km from Colmar. It was founded in 1955 and has 110 members. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by the Revue de Vins de France in 2005. Winemaker Nicolas Garde started at the Cave in 2004 and is now making increasingly high quality wines. The vineyards are planted with 26% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc, 20% Gewurtztraminer, 15% Pinot Gris and 10% Pinot Noir. This Pinot Gris is pale lemon in colour with light gold tints. A straightforward and lightly smoky nose with complex and elegant aromas of pears and fresh apricot. On the palate it has a good attack and good body. Medium dry in style it offers nice complexity full of delicate flavours. The finish is long and elegant with plenty of smoke and apricot.
