This wine revives an ancient Alsace tradition that wines assembled from noble grape varieties were called Gentil. Gentil Hugel allies the suave, spicy flavor of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of Sylvaner. The 2005 has a pure, fresh bouquet, particularly fruit-driven and floral, engaging and expressive, flattering and affectionate. One of my wife's (a big fan of pinot gris and grigio, but not syrupy-sweet, nasty whites or pinks) favorites. Not too dry, not too fruity, light and relatively low alcohol, but really flavorful and delicious. Great wine for freshwater fish.

Started with lots of fruit, but that has gone to the background with age, now smooth and subtly sweet, "petrol" flavor. Good.
