The vineyard is a true "Clos" meaning walled vineyard dating back to the 7th century. The Vouvray has an outstanding expressive with floral notes and touches of honey. Not a bottle to be missed!

The vineyard is a true "Clos" meaning walled vineyard dating back to the 7th century. The Vouvray has an outstanding expressive nose with floral and honey aromas that will captivate you, while underlying minerality will keep you intrigued.

The Huet 2009 Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg is rich and oily yet at the same time impressively juicy and bright, with fresh lime and grapefruit that almost seem as though they could have been conferred by the addition of Sauvignon. Possessed of a sweet, saline, crustacean reduction-like savor; and a remarkably palpable sense of density, this displays some of the same energy and sizzling intersection of white pepper, citrus oil, and chalk as found in the Le Mont, but here there is more refreshment, refinement, and mineral diversity. It should be worth following for the better part of a decade, if not beyond. Seen superficially, one might have expected the stressful proximity of mother chalk, paucity of fine earth and consequent difficulty to retain stress-relieving water during a warm, dry late summer and autumn to have rendered the balance in Clos du Bourg more problematic, but the opposite is the case, demonstrating both the virtue and mystery of this site.

Dry, but still flattering in feel, with friendly green almond, quince and fig notes carried by a lilting floral hint on the finish. Drink now through 2015.

Winemaker's Notes:

94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): The Clos du Bourg Sec also is noted as 13.5 percent alcohol on the label (I suspect that both the Le Mont and the Clos du Bourg are a tad higher than this in reality), but the wine does not show any heat at all over the first day and seems to have even a tad more buffering extract at the core. This is a great bottle of Sec, cut in the broadershouldered style of 2009, but with absolutely exquisite balance and focus. The nose jumps from the glass in a deep and primary mélange of pink grapefruit, oranges, bottomless, stony soil tones, a gentle touch of honeycomb and a lovely floral topnote redolent of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and beautifully focused, with superb mid-palate depth, beautifully textured, very ripe and substantial acids, and stunning length and grip on the youthful finish. This is the one 2009 Sec bottling that scales the same heights as the Huet Moelleux bottlings in this vintage. 2020-2070. (Nov 2010)
