Hourglass Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2004
The stylistic goal of Hourglass is to achieve a seamless balance of fruit concentration with the elegance of more subtle nuances driven by its terroir. Drawing from its Napa Valley origin, Hourglass has a forward depth of fruit, yet is not a "fruit bomb". Saturated mid-palate texture is again balanced by lively acidity, which rolls into a refined finish. Moderately high alcohol is balanced against integrated sweet oak, and depth of fruit. Aromatics play as important a role as texture, or flavor. Nuances of black licorice, mint, eucalyptus, earth, coffee/toffee, crème-de-cassis, and pomegranate, blend back and forth between aroma, and taste.

Coming from winemaker Bob Foley, this small production Cabernet shows his characteristic winemaking style of ripe dark fruit concentration, sweet round tannic structure and a long velvety finish. A powerhouse of a wine. The name comes from the hourglass shape of the vineyard located in the narrowest part of Napa.
