Horton Vineyards Norton Orange County 2010

Member Review by Imperial210:

I am intrigued by the Norton varietal. While this is not my favorite representation of it, I was lucky enough to partake of a bottle of Keswick Norton Reserve last year and it was awesome! I don't remember the vintage, but I believe it was a 2004. A co-worker of mine worked at the winery on weekends in the tasting room, and she was able to score a bottle. I recommend exploring Norton wines if you are a fan of Syrah and Zinfandel. This particular bottle of Horton Norton is light/medium bodied with a tart and acidic mouthfeel.

It did not take him long to realize that, although the Virginia summers were warm enough to ripen almost any grape variety, the humid conditions favored growing grapes with thicker skins and loose clusters. There began the search for varieties that would flourish in Virginia’s climate and had the capacity to produce some of the finest wines of the world. Read less

It's an insane wine. Huge, bold, complex, very intense, all sorts of bold flavors. Nothing subtle about it and not for everyone, but my personal favorite VA wine.

A fantastic Virginia dry red wine -- one of my absolute favorites from Virginia!

This Norton has a dark, rich color and an intensely fruity aroma of plums and tart cherries. Aging in oak has given this wine a long, flavorful, spicy finish. A wine for game, grilled sausages, and spicy ethinic foods.
