Horton Rkatsiteli 2011

Member Review by shortydips24:

Sweet as another reviewer mentioned, but I tend to like sweeter wines. Definitely not as sweet as a port. I would put it in the same category as a typical German riesling.

It did not take him long to realize that, although the Virginia summers were warm enough to ripen almost any grape variety, the humid conditions favored growing grapes with thicker skins and loose clusters. There began the search for varieties that would flourish in Virginia’s climate and had the capacity to produce some of the finest wines of the world. Read less

When doing research on the wineries we were going to visit in Virginia we knew Horton Vineyard was already on our list. What I did not know is they produced Rkatsiteli. My taste buds must have been saturated by the time we got to Horton, or my excitement over finding the wine took over. While it was good it is definitely not the dry Rkatisiteli I knew but rather a sweet, somewhat disappointing wine. I did not even think to ask about the Brix, wish I had.

Zesty orange peel aromas, citrus flavors and a long finish. A very rare wine for the white wine aficionado. Just say "R-Kats!"
