Hope Estate Shiraz the Ripper 2004

Member Review by WineGent:

These grapes are grown on the West Coast of Australia, then shipped clear across the country to the east coast for pressing and bottling. This wine pours out dark red, typical of an Australian shiraz. The nose is fabulous, blackberry and dark fruit, with a bit of spice/pepper. The flavor, although not overly layered or complex, is wonderful. Blueberry, nutmeg and some oak are well balanced and pleasant. The label lists this as 14.4% alcohol. I was concerned there would be a burn on the finish. There was no obvious hint of the high alcohol....just smooth tannins and lots of fruit. Although the winery says this can be cellered for up to 5 years....I think you want to drink it over the next 2. The rich fruit in this wine, like so many other Aussie treats, is the key to enjoyment here. Why tempt fate....drink it with Steak, Lamb...or a good stinky cheese.

In 1994 I gave up pharmacy to do something I loved …… make wine. Since then my wife, Karen and I have had a long term vision to transform and bring new life into the old Rothbury Estate, now known as Hope Estate. We are delighted to announce the realization of a couple of those dreams with the opening of Harvest Restaurant. Harvest Restaurant is the jewel in our crown. The renovation transforms the old Rothbury site into a new vibrant venue incorporating the restaurant and the recent construction of the amphitheatre. Hope Estate now provides the ultimate location for premium wine, fine dining, private functions and spectacular outdoor concerts and events. The other addition to Hope Estate is the opportunity to try sky diving with the Hunter Valley Sky Diving calling Hope their new home in the Valley. We are dedicated to making great wines, and to creating a wonderful environment in which to try them. Now is a great time to visit Hope Estate and experience what we have to offer. Read less
