Food Pairings for Hook and Ladder Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Fruit forward and not much oak make this an excellent Russian River chardonnay. Citrus, lemon peel and a bit of stone minerality combine with a medium length finish. This is best with a little air time and served not too chilled.
This was part of a Hook and Ladder food and wine pairing dinner. I could not tell what kind of Chardonnay they were trying to make. A more crisp European style or the buttery creamy Californian? This was not very buttery with a nose of pear. It was smooth but green apple tart. Apparently the oak barrels in which the Chardonnay goes through malo-lactic fermentation gets a little suntanning once in awhile according to Josh although I do not know how much that matters. The pairing highlighted the buttery smoothness of the wine which confirmed it Californian origins. buttered toast, very nice balance of citrus fruit and wood. Probably a keep around the house chard. Pairings: buttery or cheesy dishes, good for alfredo and chicken or shrimp
A little better than you'd expect at the price. Definite pome fruit overtones. Gravenstein rather than Gala apples. It grows on you.

Wine Tasting NotesThe bright straw to light gold color of the wine announces a beautiful chardonnay nose combining aromas of ripe melon and yellow apple, hints of hay and notes of butterscotch. At fi rst sip a creamy quality emerges followed by a crispness that serves as the platter for the long fl avors of melon, banana, citrus and pure Chardonnay fruit.
