Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is spicy on the nose with cassis, plums and cedar scents. In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

Very very dry, but well made cabernet sauvignon.

Dry nose of fresh oak staves. Reserved fruit, but aromas of tar and ink. Hints of loamy earth and dried dark berry. On the palate, dark dried berries, anise, spice, cedar and loam. It's dark, brooding and rich. Very dry. Notes of espresso. Huge tannin on the finish. Also a great acid profile, so I think this is well suited for good aging potential. 92 pts. 7/14/12

Mild to medium blackberry perfume nose. Smoke, cocoa, currant, soil, raspberry, and dark fruit on the mid palate. Low key, satisfying finish with active but not overpowering tannins. This really came together after about an hour in the glass. 90-91 point napa cab, and at this price point that's pretty good value.

Very different for my tastes. I wouldn't say that it was bad....just way too sweet in the tannins dept. Not my thing.

Vintage: The 2015 growing season in Napa Valley started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring. This resulted in an early bud break and bloom. Colder temperatures in May (during the peak of bloom) caused uneven fruit set which ultimately resulted in much smaller crop in 2015, compared to both average yields and also the three abundant years that preceded it. The harvest was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley, beginning on July 22 with the picking of grapes for sparkling wine, and concluding for most all vintners and growers in the valley by mid-October. While ongoing drought was of great concern to farmers around California, Napa Valley received 75% of normal rainfall for the water year, bringing far fewer water concerns for Napa Valley's vintners. Winemaking: The fruit for this wine comes from both our sustainably farmed vineyard in Rutherford, and from local Napa Valley vineyards. Each vineyard block was harvested and made into an individual lot representing that block. The wines were pressed off the skins from 10 to 30 days after crushing. Blending generally takes place between January and April of the year following harvest. Bottled in June 2017. Aging: Aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels (10 % new French oak barrels and 25% new American oak barrels) Tasting Notes: Bright blackberry, red plum, and raspberry fruit with notes of cranberry, black tea, spice and coriander seed. Luscious and balanced, with toasty oak and a long finish. Blend: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon 9% Petit Verdot 4% Merlot 4% Cabernet Franc

Tasting Notes: Bright blackberry, red plum, and raspberry fruit with notes of cranberry, black tea, spice and coriander seed. Luscious and balanced, with toasty oak and a long finish. VINTAGE: In spite of the drought and the South Napa earthquake, vintners are using words like “quality,” “depth of flavor” and “excellent” to describe their expectations for the 2014 vintage in Napa Valley. The 2013/2014 winter was one of the driest on record in California and rainfall totals in the Napa Valley were approximately half of normal. Heavy rains in late February and early March gave a much-needed drink of water to the vines as about to begin bud break. Spring was warm allowing vintners and growers to save water for irrigation rather than using it for frost protection. While the vines used for high-quality wine production generally don’t need much water, a benefit of the drought is that berry sizes are typically smaller and have more concentrated flavors, which many winemakers believe contributed to the overall quality of this year’s harvest. Tasting Notes: A big Cabernet with balance and finesse, with characters of black fruit, baking spices, black cherry, lavender, toasted coriander, and anise, layered with toasty oak. The finish is long, with just the right amount of tannins. Vintage: “Early, even and excellent” are three words used to describe the 2013 growing season and the Napa Valley wine grapes that came from it, reflecting the consistent quality for which this world famous wine region is known. On solid footing, with sassy tannins, this offers a core of mocha, blackberry and dark berry flavors that are pure, dense and chewy, accented by tobacco leaf and cigar box notes. Drink now through 2023. 15,355 cases made.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby/purple with notes of plum and blackcurrant with the attractive aromatics followed by a medium-bodied wine. It starts off well and shortens ever so slightly in the finish. This is certainly good, stylish Cabernet Sauvignon, but this is the high end in terms of quality.

Tasting Notes: Plenty of ripe, wild berry and plum aromas and flavors, framed by vanilla, spice, and toasty oak. Lush mid-palate tannins flow into a lengthy finish accented by bright fruit. Drink now through 2024. VINTAGE: Textbook conditions saw near-ideal spring bud break, steady flowering, even fruit set, a lengthy stretch of warm days, and cool and often foggy nights during the long summer months. Late and light rains held off until grapes found optimal ripeness, bringing exceptional quality to the crush pad and into the cellar. Each vineyard block was harvested and made into an individual lot representing that block. The wines were pressed off the skins from 10 to 20 days after crushing.
