Honig Vineyard and Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2012
89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc. Plenty of ripe, wild berry and plum aromas and flavors, framed by vanilla, spice, and toasty oak. Lush mid-palate tannins flow into a lengthy finish accented by bright fruit. Drink now through 2024. Barrel aged 18 months in American oak (35% new). Alcohol 14.5%. Not yet reviewed; 2011 vintage rated 93 points by James Suckling: The mineral, blueberry and pine-needle character is cool here. Bark. Full body but reserved and balanced, with fine tannins and a chocolate, berry and blueberry character. Extremely well done for the vintage, with style and panache. I like this better than the 2010 for its reserve and form. Drink or hold.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby/purple with notes of plum and blackcurrant with the attractive aromatics followed by a medium-bodied wine. It starts off well and shortens ever so slightly in the finish. This is certainly good, stylish Cabernet Sauvignon, but this is the high end in terms of quality.

VINTAGE: Textbook conditions saw near-ideal spring bud break, steady flowering, even fruit set, a lengthy stretch of warm days, and cool and often foggy nights during the long summer months. Late and light rains held off until grapes found optimal ripeness, bringing exceptional quality to the crush pad and into the cellar. WINEMAKING: The fruit for this wine comes from both our sustainably farmed vineyard in Rutherford, and from local Napa Valley vineyards. Each vineyard block was harvested and made into an individual lot representing that block. The wines were pressed off the skins from 10 to 20 days after crushing.
