In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

Grapefruit and lime aromas, nice acidity and minerality great with the coconut shrimp/mango salso, a little white peach on palate, citrus fruit overall

Crisp with a light nose of lemon tarts. Soft sugars take the edge of the acidity and gives the wine a round mid palate. Nice

Honig is a nice lite crisp, dry, flinty, clean refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. This is a great white wine to go with fish or any seafood and chicken. Can't beat the price =)

Honig produced 20,000 cases of 2002 Sauvignon Blanc, a crisp, fig, melon-filled white with an attractive fragrance, light to medium body, and an easy-going personality. Moreover, it is fairly priced. Drink it over the next year.

Ripe and concentrated, with a broad swath of melon, freshly cut hay, grass and fig flavors. Tangy grapefruit, lemon and orange overtones carry through the finish.

Honig is one of the leading practitioners of crisp, dry, flinty, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. The 2003 Sauvignon Blanc Napa (which includes 5% Semillon) exhibits light to medium-bodied, elegant notes of lemon grass intermingled with melon, fig, and crushed rocks. It is a stylish, pure expression of Sauvignon to consume over the next 1-2 years.

With this wine, you get Napa Valley quality at a very reasonable price. The Honig family has long specialized in Sauvignon Blanc. Obviously they really know their varietal. This lush yet zippy wine sports a blend of citrus, melon, fig, herb and gooseberry flavors. Fresh, clean and long on the finish, it offers a seductive hint of honey at the end.

This fine Sauvignon Blanc producer has fashioned a light to medium-bodied 2004 Sauvignon Blanc Napa that offers crisp fig, mineral, and melon notes. This is an excellent Sauvignon to enjoy over the next 1-2 years.

Intense yet delicate, with a medley of lime skin, grapefruit, grass and cedar flavors underscored by pretty floral notes and a burst of green pear and fig. Drink now through 2006.

Very pale color. Pure aromas of white grapefruit, passion fruit, grass and ginger. Then fat and ripe, with an exotic hint of banana leavened by good dry minerality. Not really herbal but ultimately cool, classic, musky sauvignon that should go well with oysters. Honig began picking their small 2004 sauvignon crop on August 10!
