Honig Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2017

Member Review by rckr1951:

Very good as always. Petrol, melon, citrus, lanolin and stone fruit on the nose lead to tantalizing, mouthwatering finish with plenty of minerality and acidity. Drink now - Paul 89 poits

In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

Great everyday white for the summer ... so I guess that makes it a great summer wine. :-)

Very good desert wine. Not overly sweet, has good acidity. Good balance with aromas of apricot and honey. Tastes range from apricot, honey, leche and grapfruit. Lovely wine.

Tasting Notes: Bright acidity and crisp freshness, with flavors of juicy peach, passion fruit, and grapefruit, and the enticing aromas of jasmine and lemon zest. Medium-bodied, with a lingering finish. WINEMAKING: The Sauvignon blanc grapes are treated using two different methods. To enhance the delicate tropical fruit flavors, a portion of the fruit goes directly into the press as whole clusters. The remaining fruit is de-stemmed and left in contact with the skins for several hours before pressing, amplifying the grapefruit/citrus components. All of the juice is fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks using a variety of yeast strains selected to bring out the aroma and flavor profiles of Sauvignon Blanc. AGING: Aged on light lees - 8% in neutral oak tanks (the oak tanks help develop mid-palate texture without adding any oak flavor) 92% in stainless steel tanks FRUIT: 95% Sauvignon Blanc 4% Semillon 1% Muscat

Flowery and electric in high-toned grapefruit and peach, this is a crisp, clean white from a consistent producer. Medium-bodied, it holds small percentages of Sémillon and Muscat. The finely hewed texture benefits from 10% of the wine having been aged in neutral oak.

Tasting Notes: A crisp, fresh Sauvignon Blanc created in the classic Honig style. Peach, lemon grass, hints of jasmine and pea shoot are balanced by grapefruit and lime. Medium bodied, with a bright, lingering finish. Enjoyable with many foods including curries, roasted fish and a wide variety of cheeses. It is a perfect comple ment to relaxing on the porch with family and friends. Winemaking: The Sauvignon blanc grapes are treated using two different methods.
