Honig Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

93% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillon, 1% Muscat. A crisp, fresh Sauvignon Blanc created in the classic Honig style. Peach, lemon grass, hints of jasmine and pea shoot are balanced by grapefruit and lime. Medium bodied, with a bright, lingering finish. Enjoyable with many foods including curries, roasted fish and a wide variety of cheeses. Not yet reviewed; 2012 vintage rated 91 points by The Tasting Panel: A blend of 97% Sauvignon Blanc, 2% Semillon and 1% Muscat, this zings with fresh cucumber, kiwi and juist-juiced red grapefruit. Delicious and mineral-light refreshingly clean--I have retained fond palate memory of this from tasting it weeks ago. Aged on light lees and 10% in neutral oak tanks with 90% in stainless steel tanks.

In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

really like this one. Intricate carbonation, really explores the corners of your mouth. Fun all the way down

I'm tasting kiwi. Meadow flowers aroma, with a nice finish.

Very good desert wine. Not overly sweet, has good acidity. Good balance with aromas of apricot and honey. Tastes range from apricot, honey, leche and grapfruit. Lovely wine.

Great everyday white for the summer ... so I guess that makes it a great summer wine. :-)

The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc offers plenty of fig, melon and caramelized grapefruit characteristics in its fresh, crisp personality. With excellent texture and medium body, this delicious, dry, complex, satisfying Sauvignon should provide plenty of enjoyment over the next year. The good news is there are 50,000 cases. - Robert Parker 88 Points Bright and lemony, with a refreshing zip of acidity weaving in and out of the citrus zest, peach and apple flavors. Consistently one of the finest Sauvignons made in California, Honig's 2008 (30,000 cases produced) is a blend of 99% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Semillon from prime Napa Valley real estate. It exhibits crisp fig and melon notes intermixed with hints of beeswax and crushed rocks.
