Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes on the Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2004 375 Ml : 375ML Half BottleWINE ENTHUSIAST REVIEW: 89 POINTS Balanced and elegant, this is the kind of Cabernet you drink with ood where the food, not the wine, takes center stage. It's dry and richly tannic, with complex but never overripe blackberry, cassis, coffee and oak flavors, and the finish is long and satisfying. Drink now–2012. — S.H. (5/1/2007)NVWE NOTES: Slightly floral and attractively ripe, the nose of this Cabernet shows well focused scents of dark cherry, cassis, vanilla, toast and cedar in a soft-edged and quietly zesty melange. On the palate it is firmer and more youthful, as the cherry, red currant, vanilla, toast and baking spice flavors prove more subtle and a hint tighter. Airing brings the flavors up to the aromas in intensity. Although better in another twelve months, it will be delicious now with sauced meats or steaks.HONIG CABERNET SAUVIGNON NAPA VALLEY 2004 375 ML

In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

Bigger and bolder than the standard cabernet from Honig. Rich red fruit with good tannins. Well balanced ... this is a keeper.

Chunky, full-bodied Cabernet showing candied cherry and red licorice notes along with a touch of chocolate. Straightforward, satisfying "everyday" Cabernet.

The nose is hauntingly gorgeous! Alas, the palate doesn't measure up but still a lovely wine overall.

Somehow Honig has managed to stay under the radar with their well-made organic wines from Napa. This is certainly a Cabernet worth discovering with its deep ruby red color and complex aromas. Find black cherry, cocoa, spice and green tea on the palate. Aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, only 30% of which are new oak. Well-balanced and well-structured.
