When I was alot younger and looking to just get drunk and oh yeah, felt like a good vomit...a friend of mine gave me a bottle of this drink called "Purple Passion". Pure nastiness in a bottle. This honey wine is only a tad bit better than that. The nose is initially overwhelmed with aromas of alcohol. Needless to say, it lingers in the nostrils for quite a while. Upon the first taste, really not too bad. Fruity, sweet...quite pleasant really. Then it hits you. WHOA! That is some NASTY aftertaste. The alcohol just overwhelms your senses and has an acidic taste and burn. Too much alcohol (16.7% I believe). Definitely not a "buy again", probably not even a "finish the bottle". One glass was enough for me.

Honeyrun, a small family-run firm in the Sierra Nevada foothills, produces this blackberry honeywine naturally, with no added sulfites. Ripe, jammy flavors, sweet but not cloying, enjoy with a light chill, before or after dinner, or keep a few years as you would a quality port.

Honeyrun, a small family-run firm in the Sierra Nevada foothills, produces this blackberry honeywine from organically grown grapes. With ripe, jammy flavors, it is a sweet but not cloying dessert wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

Great blackberry flavor with a kiss of honey. Try it chilled before or after dinner, with dark chocolate. Our Summer favorite: put ice in the blender, cover it with Blackberry Honeywine, blend and serve. This wine should retain its fruity flavor for 6 months to a year, or longer if kept cool i.e. cellar temperature. We have enjoyed some bottles of 3 and 4 year old blackberry honeywine; they matured into wine that was less fruity and more port-like.
