Homefire Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2006
Zin artists working with the one of the most expressive varietals in California.
Mr. Muscleman Pinot Noir married Ms. Lightweight Sirah and bore a child named Homefire Zin. Color and nose like a good Pinot Noir, in the mouth big darker fruit and spice, pleasantly astringent and a bit sour. Finishes with leather and oil. Yum, quite interesting and good value for the price as tested, well south of $10. Medium plus acid, tannin, and body.
The price tested for dynowine's review below was below $10, not sure about the price posted as of 4-5-2010.
After 6 hours of vacu-corked in the fridge this wine became even better. Everything seems to be in the right proportions, with well-integrated fruit, spice, earth/herb, acid, and tannin; very elegant and medium in most dimensions with the right amount of fruit. I can't detect any significant flaw. At less than $10 this is amazing. Absent vacu-cork in the fridge likely needs a good 45 minutes of decanting to reveal its quality.
